I've found the KDHS team to be very competent, and very responsive to my father's needs as well as mine. The KDHS team does everything - basic personal care, taking my father to appointments, preparing meals, cleaning, and keeping him company. Every PSW I've had the pleasure of working with has filled me with confidence that my father is being properly cared for. I even had them visit him in hospital when I wasn't able to make the trip to Kingston, and will likely have them follow up if/when my father is admitted to an LTC. For those about to hire PSWs for their elderly relative, you are probably wondering who to trust. That's not an easy question to answer. You will likely read testimonials just like this one on every other firm's site. My advice would be whoever you hire, you get to know the workers coming in to your elderly relative's home, and try to be there when they are doing their daily routine. Also, make sure whoever you have is bonded. Most firms are already, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Stacey Hickman is, without doubt, the best and most creative caregiver my husband ever had, over the last ten years of his life. As he struggled with mobility challenges and progressive dementia, Stacey and her talented staff, simply did MORE than what was expected. One day, I arrived at the long term care facility to find Stacey singing operatic lieder to him (she is a talented singer). On another occasion, they were singing Dinah Shore songs together, while she played the piano. It’s an excellent, reliable, professional service, safe and caring for patients. They go above and beyond, buying my friend’s clothes as needed and personal supplies which is a big help. When asked to follow up on a situation, they are all in. For example, my friend needed dental care and the hygienist taught the KDHS staff member how to do a properly daily brushing and it has been very successful. They visited her in hospital and helped with meals. There is follow up physiotherapy too. I’d highly recommend them.
